Wilson’s Flooring Specialists were proud and humbled to have been invited by the Wirral Council to help to prepare Wallasey Town Hall in Wirral for a ceremony in which the 96 men, women and children, who sadly lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster, were to be posthumously awarded the Freedom of Wirral. Council members were looking for the supply and installation of a red carpet.
What we did
Our managing director, John Wilson, and our flooring experts met with Council procurement officers to discuss their exact requirements for the job, including the quality of the carpet, the colour, and the method of installation.
We then liaised with the manufacturer on behalf of the Council to produce a heavy-duty carpet runner which was 15 metres long by 2 metres wide and in Liverpool’s red colour, to honour those at Hillsborough. The carpet was made in one continuous run with bound edges.
Upon installation, our flooring experts ensured that the carpeting conformed with HSE requirements and provided all relevant risk assessments. The time from the initial order to the completed installation was one week.
Outcome
On Friday 15 September, approximately 70 of the bereaved families were welcomed to the ceremony at Wallasey Town Hall. Also in attendance were representatives from Merseyside football clubs, as well as Councillor Ann McLachlan, the Mayor of Wirral, and Steve Rotheram, the Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region.
The ceremony itself was beautiful. The town hall was lit with red lanterns and a local primary school choir sung the Liverpool anthem, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.
Testimonial
I want to take this opportunity to thank Wilson’s Flooring Specialists for their support and involvement in our recent awarding of the Freedom of the Borough to the 96.
I have been overwhelmed by the level of congratulations and kind words, especially from family members regarding this significant occasion and I want Wilson’s Flooring Specialists to know that they played a significant role in making it a success.
More important than the success of the occasion, however, is the sensitivity and ambience of it. Again, the contribution of Wilson’s team helped get that right.
I, and the people of Wirral are so grateful for the part Wilson’s Flooring Specialists played in the poignant and memorable occasion.
